The Settling down the city building principles of the western Anatolia ancient settlements

VI ABSTRACT The Ancient settlements of western Anatolia were urban settlements which were developed by the social organizations of the society. The planning of these cities were the reflections of this social organization of the society to the town planning. All of these ancient settlement had very much common points which have included the principles of planning the cities, the city buildings and the settleling down the city buildings on the city plans. In this Thesis, the ancient settlements of Western Anatolia were examined considering this common points of the ancient settlements. A systematic of the planning methods of the cities and settling the city buildings was tried to established. The purpose of the study was forming the models of the city planning. These models will help us to find out where can be the city buildings of the unexcaveted ancient settlements. The second chapter is about, the formation of the Greek city states, and the steps of the societies social organization periods, due to their importance of influening the formation of the regular pattern of the city planing. The city planning of the ancient cities were observed starting from the archaic period till the hellenitic period. The formation of the city planning, settling down the city buildings on the city plans and how these city buildings settle down on the landscape were examined including the periods mentioned before. In the forth chapter the principles of settling down the city buildings on the city states were examined, according to the planning principles of Greek cities which were examined in the third chapter. The development of the city buddings were studied.vıı After examining the planning principles of the Greek cities and settlling down the city buildings on the city plans, two different models of the city plans were found. In order to bring up the similarities and the differences these two city models, two samples were chosen to examine.Priene was chosen as the example of teh regular city plans, Pergamon was chosen as the example öf the irregular city plans. After examining these two cities, the models of the city plans of Western Anatolia were defined clearly. By using these models a city plan for Metropolis were suggested.
