Abstract (EN)
Materials prepared for Turkish children living abroad have been prepared without considering many criteria. While these materials are used abroad, these materials may not be sufficient for use by teachers of Turkish and Turkish Culture Courses, and so may not always be available. One of the major deficiencies in preparing instructional materials is not defining the most common verbal or written words used by children in their works, and also not giving a frequency count of those words. In this respect, written works were done with 92 bilingual children of fourth and fifth grade in different primary schools in the regions of Champagne-Ardenne "and" Ile de France in France. The field research of qualitative evaluation research methods was used. Written works of students were used in data collection. Then, method of document analysis was used. Analysis of acquired data is presented as frequency and percentage. It is supported with the indications that the students attended widely used 2,256 different words, and these words are repeated 88030 times in total. According to the results, it is seen that bilingual children have really poor vocabulary knowledge. For the reason, policies need to be developed on academic researches of systematic words teaching for bilingual Turkish children living abroad. Keywords: Bilingualism, Mother Tongue, Word Frequency, France.
