Abstract (EN)
Perception verbs see, touch, etc. conveys the meanings of the physical perception field. Feelings and cognitions etc. that are outside this meaning field and belong to the abstract field of meaning can also be conveyed by perception verbs. In this case, there are extensions from the physical meaning of perception verbs to other fields of meaning. Cognitive Linguistics advocates the view that such extension of meanings that occur in perception verbs are not random and that these meanings are based on bodily and cultural experiences. The aim of this study, in which the Cognitive Linguistics approach is discussed, is to determine the meaning extensions of perception verbs in West Turkish and to determine the conceptual mapping pattern followed by these extensions. Thus, the aim is to examine the polysemy that appear in the semantic fields of perception verbs in West Turkish with a cognitive approach. In the first chapter, a history of Cognitive Linguistics will be given, and the basic principles adopted in cognitive semantics and cognitive grammar will be present. The basic theories adopted in cognitive semantics, image schema, prototype and embodied theories will be explained. In the second chapter, the phenomenon of polysemy, evaluations of polysemy in traditional approaches and polysemy in cognitive semantics will be discussed. In this study, information about MIND-AS-BODY and property selection process methods of Conceptual Metaphor Theory which will be used as evaluating method will be given. In the third chapter, the classification of perception verbs according to five basic senses will be examined on a physiological basis and their relation with the senses will be shown. Later, the meaning areas of these verbs will be determined and the conceptual metaphors that occur with the mapping between concepts will be determined. In the fourth chapter, an evaluation will be made regarding the study. How the perception verbs in West Turkish are examined with cognitive approach will be evaluated. In the conclusion section, semantic field of the basic perception verbs in West Turkish and the meanings that arise in these areas will be shown by supporting tables, and the conceptual mappings that are related to each perception verb, which are linguistic expressions, will be listed.
