ABSTRACT Ph.D. Thesis DETERMINATION OF WEED SPECIES, THEIR DENSITY AND COMMUNITY IN THE FIELDS OF BARLEY, WHEAT, LENTIL AND SUGER BEAT, THEIR RATIO IN SEED OF BARLEY, WHEAT AND LENTIL GROWN IN THE PROVINCE OF BAYBURT Şaban KORDALİ Atatürk University Faculty of Agriculture, Department of Plant Protection Supervisor: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hüseyin ZENGİN During 2000 and 2001 the present study was conducted to determine of weed species, density and community in the fields of barley, wheat, lentil and sugar beat, and ratio of weed mixed with the seeds of barley, wheat and lentil grown in the province of Bayburt in 1999 and 2000. The results showed that the most common weed species; Chenopodium album L.(Common lamb's quarters), Cirsium arvense (L.) Scop. (Creeping thistle), Sinapis arvensis L. (Charlock), Fallopia convolvulus (L.) A. loeve. (Wild buckwheat), Geranium tuberosum L. (Herb Robert geranium), Centaurea deprassa Bleb. (Loggerheads-Blue bottle), Convolvulus arvensis L. (Field bindweed), Avena fatua L. (Spring wild oat), Lactuca serriola L. (Oil lettuce), Tragopogon spp. and Polygonum bellardii All. in barley fields; C. album, F. convolvulus, S. arvensis, C. arvense, G. tuberosum, C. arvensis, C. deprassa, P. bellardii, Galium tricornutum Dandy (Three cornered bedstraw- corn leavers), Secale cereale L. (Rye), Tragopogon spp, Vaccaria pyramidata Medik (Cow cockle), Ranunculus arvensis L. (Corn butter cup), P. bellardii, Sideritis montana L. (Field iron wort) in wheat fields; C. album, S. arvensis, C. arvense, C. arvensis, Amaranthus retrojlexus L. (Redroot pigweed), G. tuberosum, Tragopogon spp, F. convolvulus, V. pyramidata, Seteria viridis (L.) P.B. (Gren foxtail) and Cardaria draba (L.) Desv. (Field hoerstail) in sugar beat fields; G. tuberosum, C. arvensis, Tragopogon spp, S. montana, C. deprassa, C. arvense, S. arvensis, F. convolvulus, P. bellardii, Euphorbia virgata Waldst. et. Kit. (Leafy spurge), Calystegia sepium (L.) R. Br. (Hedge bindweed) and V. pyramidata in lentil fields. The similarity ratio between crop in term of weed species were between lentil and sugar beat 67.21%, 72.27% between wheat and sugar beat, 75.68% barley and lentil, 79.05% between barley and sugar beat, 79.20% barley and wheat and % 81.53 barley and lentil. The most common weed species were mixed with barley, wheat and lentil seeds were A. fatua, Agrostemma githago L. (Corn cockle), Boreava orientalis Jaub and Spach. (Yellow weed), C. depressa, Cephalaria syriaca (L.) Schrad. (Syrian scabrous), Cephalaria sp., C. album, Cichorium intybus L. (Common chicory), C. arvense, C. arvensis, F. convolvulus, G. tricornutum, L. serriola, Lolium multiftorum Lam. (Italian rye-grass), P. bellardii, S. arvensis, V. pyramidata and Vicia spp. The main members of weed communities were 5. arvensis and C. arvense in barley; F. convolvulus and S. cereale in wheat; Tragopogon spp. in lentil and C. album, C. arvensis and S. arvensis in sugar beat fields. 2002, 136 pages Keys words: Weed, cereals, lentil, sugar beat, community
