Abstract (EN)
In this study, two different brown algae (Sargassum sp. and Cystoseira sp.) were collected from the Kale and Konacık Regions of the Iskenderun Gulf, located on the eastern Mediterranean coast and their extracts were obtained. The effects of these extracts on the survival of Drosophila melanogaster and anticancer effects on the human colon cancer cell line (DLD-1) were studied. In the cell culture studies, 3 different doses of algae extracts (25 μg / ml, 12.5 μg / ml, 6.25 μg / ml) were applied to the DLD-1 cell line separately and with doxorubicin (10 μM), dimethyl thiazol-2-yl) -2,5-diphenyl tetrazolium bromide (MTT) test. Doxorubicin, is one of the chemotherapeutic drugs used for treatment of many types of cancer and genotoxic and carcinogenic effects are known, was used as positive control. In addition, the plant extracts were applied to 72 ± 4 h trans-heterozygous Drosophila melanogaster larvae carrying flare (flr3) and multiple wing hair (mwh) mutant marker genes. The survival rate in the control group was 83%. Both Brown algae (Sargassum sp. 88% and Cystoseira sp. 94%) also positively affected the survival of Drosopila melanogaster. MTT test results showed that both algal extracts increased absorbance values at the doses applied. The arithmetic averages of the absorbance values obtained at different concentrations were calculated in MS Excel program with standard errors. In this study, findings presented in graphical and tabular form indicate that these two algae (Sargassum sp., Cystoseira sp.) may be potential therapeutic sources for the future.
