The effect of climate on leaf micromorphological characters in some broadleaves species

Abstract (EN)

Determination of the change of micromorphological characters depending on the species and the climate conditions in some landscape plants grown in areas with different climate conditions was aimed within this study. For this purpose, leaf samples of 5 different woody species (Cotoneaster franchetti, Cercis siliquastrum, Cotoneaster horizontalis, Acer negundo and Robinia pseudoacacia) from the areas dominated by continental, Blacksea and Mediterrenean climate, and the scaled images of these samples were obtained via electron microscope (SEM = Scanning Electron Microscope). The stoma length (μm), stoma width (μm), pore length (μm), pore width and stoma density (1 mm2 area) were determined with the measurements conducted on these scaled images. The obtained data were evaluated statistically and the change of these characters depending on the climate and the species were determined. As a result, the lowest values for all characters except Stoma density (STY) were obtained in terrestrial climate while the highest values were obtained in plants grown in Mediterranean climate. In terms of stoma density, the lowest value was obtained in plants grown in the Mediterranean climate, where the highest values were obtained in terms of other characters, and the highest value was obtained in plants grown in the terrestrial climate where the lowest values were obtained in terms of other characters. However, when the changes depending on the species were examined, it was determined that different species react differently depending on the climate type.
