Abstract (EN)

In this study, the role of supporting basic physics experiments, performed in traditional confirming laboratory approach, with computer simulations over eliminating misconceptions concerning basic mechanics.In the first dimension of the study, a three-tire Basic Mechanics Conception Test (BMCT) was prepared to clearly determine students? misconceptions and pre-application was applied to 166 students to make statistical analysis regarding the test. Evaluating the application results in terms of misconception and score, reliability and validity of the test has been examined.In the second dimension of the study, the simulations supporting the basic physics experiments were developed by the Interactive Physics program and some graphics are supported by the Modellus program. So as for the students within the experiment group to easily use the simulations, a guide for each simulation was prepared and students were made a preparation application about the use of the simulation performed.Within the scope of the actual application, 93 normal education students from Gazi Faculty of Education, Primary School Mathematics Teaching Program?s A-B sections and who were taking the basic physics laboratory lesson in the first half of the educational year 2006-2007 were worked with. A four-week education period with the 48 students within the control group was performed only according to the traditional confirming laboratory approach whereas traditional confirming laboratory approach supported by computer simulations were performed with the 45 students within the experiment group. Before and after the application, all students were applied BMCT as prior test and final test. Students? prior test and final test misconceptions and scores, by being analyzed with dependent and independent groups? t-test, were evaluated in 0,05 meaningfulness level. Moreover, right answers with wrong reasons and wrong answers with right reasons were commented after being examined.According to the study results, there was a significant decrease in the experiment group students? misconceptions compared to the control group. Nevertheless, as a result of the analysis made according to the sub dimensions within misconception taxonomy, it was determined that this significant difference was valid just in certain dimensions.Key Words: Model, modelling, computer simulation, misconception, mechanics.
