A research on the inheritance of agronomical and technological properties of some cotton (Gossypium ssp.) in line x tester hybrids

Abstract (EN)
This study was conducted in randomized complete blocks with three replications to investigate the genetical make up, evaluate F1 hybrid vigor and determine the suitable parents and their hybrid combinations, and to create genetic source for studied characteristics in the population obtained by line x tester quantitative analysis method involving 4 female and 3 male parents of cotton (Gossypium ssp.) in the C.U. Cotton Research and Application Center experiment area, in the years of 2006 and 2007.In the populations; all properties were influenced by non-additive gene effects; values of heterosis for seed cotton weight per boll, ginning percentage, fiber micronaire, short fiber index and fiber elongation were negative, while the other characters were positive. It was determined that Paum 100 for plant height; Bahar-14 for number of sympodial branches per plant and number of boll per plant; Paum 102 for cotton weight per boll, seed cotton yield, ginning percentage, fiber micronaire and fiber elongation; Paum 101 and Paum-B for fiber length, fiber uniformity, fiber strength; Paum-B for short fiber index were the best parent cotton cultivars and also had best general combining abilities. It was determined that Paum 103 X Bahar-14 for plant height and fiber elongation; Paum 102 X Bahar-14 for number of sympodial branches per plant, number of boll per plant, seed cotton yield, fiber micronaire and fiber uniformity; Paum 103 X Aşkabat-91 for seed cotton weight per boll; Paum 102 X Aşkabat-91 for ginning percentage; Paum 101 X Paum-B and Paum 102 X Bahar-14 for fiber length; Paum 101 X Paum-B for fiber strength; Paum 103 X Paum-B for short fiber index hybrid combinations were the most promising crosses.
