Abstract (EN)

Extracts of fourteen plants taxa foreseen in having antioxidant and antiepileptic features were obtained with soxhlet extraction by using water, ethanol and hexane solvents in this thesis. Used plants are "European barberry (Berberis vulgaris L.), Coral peony (Paeonia mascula L. Miller ssp. mascula) ve European Mistletoe (Viscum album L. ssp. album) could not be obtained. The extracts of 14 plant taxa which were acquired: French lavander (Lavandula stoechas L. ssp. stoechas), Valerian (Valeriana officinalis L.), Syrian rue (Peganum harmala L.), Liquorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra L. var. glabra), Boxwood (Buxus sempervirens L. ssp. sempervirens), Chicory (Cichorium intybus L.), Marjoram (Origanum majorana L.), Lemon balm (Melissa officinalis L. ssp. officinalis), Prickly juniper (Juniperus oxycedrus L. ssp. oxycedrus var. oxycedrus f. oxycedrus), Wild camomile (Anthemis cotula L.), Oats (Avena sativa L.), Coriander (Coriandrum sativum L.), Flax (Linum usitatissimum L.) ve Marijuana (Cannabis sativa L.)". Antioxidant activity of the obtained extracts were determined using FRAP assay, DPPH free radical scavenging activity assay, Metal-Chelate activity assay and H2O2 scavenging activity assay methods. Furthermore, total phenolic and flavonoid contents of extracts were detected according to Folin-Ciocalteu and aluminyum chlorid colorimetric methods. The flavonoids of catechin, epicatechin, rutin, naringin, myricetin, luteolin, naringenin and apigenin in the obtained 42 extract species were analyzeded with normal-phase HPLC.
