Abstract (EN)
Kündekâri is a production technique, which has taken an important place in wood workmanship of Sel Juki an and Ottoman. A number of kündekâri samples could reach up to the present in well condition to be used. In this study the using feasibility of some local wood species, which were used for making a lot of products in the past, has been investigated. For this purpose, after some trees that grow in our country acacia (Robinia pseudoacacia L.), pear {Pirns communis L.), chestnut (Castanea sativa Mill.), oak (Quercus petrean Lieble) and cedar (Cedrus libani A. Rich) are processed on woodworking machines (cutting, planning, sanding), they have been used in order to prepare sample panels in real sizes by joining them with a technique (spline-mortise and tenon) which is very similar to real kündekâri technique. Furthermore, PVAc with one component, PVAc with two components and modified with 5% hardener, polyurethane were used for gluing the samples for determining glue using feasibility in kündekâri technique. Shellac varnish, teak oil, liquid paraffine were applied to the surface of the samples to determine the color changes on wood material caused by the UV lights. Bonding strength of the glues, densities of wood materials, color changes, surface roughness, the amount of swelling and shrinking were tested by using BS EN 204-BS EN 205, TS 2472, IV ASTM 2224.02 el, ISO 4287 and TS 4083-4084 respectively. The results of this study indicate that in the wood materials which have high density, the bonding strength of wood has high too and PVAC-D4 used for gluing the has been affected positively samples. UV lights have changed the color of wood and the least color changes have been obtained by using liquid paraffin. When the number of cutter have increased, the surface roughness have decreased. Defects resulting from swelling and shrinking of the wood materials have been eliminated significantly with kündekâri.Key Words: Kündekâri technique, wood materials, bonding strength, color change, surface roughness, the amound of swelling and shrinking.
