Abstract (EN)

With the rapid increase in urbanization and concrete structures, impermeable coatings used in roads, pavements, parks and gardens cause urban flooding. For this reason, sustainable solutions are needed more than ever. As an alternative solution to impermeable coatings, pervious concretes, which thanks to their porous structure, which provides efficient transmission of water and have been widely researched in recent years, have come to the forefront. Within the extent of this study, the change of mechanical properties of pervious concretes was investigated by reinforcing basalt fiber mesh. The study consists of two stages. In the first stage, three different aggregate gradations (100% 10-15 mm, 50% 5-10 mm + 50% 10-15 mm, 100% 5-10 mm) and three different cement paste volumes (15%, 20% and 25%) were used to produce pervious concrete samples. The physical and mechanical properties of pervious concrete were determined by performing fresh concrete unit weight, void ratio, compressive strength, split tensile strength, permeability tests on the samples produced. At the end of the first stage, the best performing pervious concrete designs were selected. In the second stage, single layer and double layer basalt fiber mesh reinforcement was made by using the most suitable mixture designs, in a way to reach 1/3, 2/3 of the height of the produced pervious concrete samples. In order to determine the physical and mechanical properties of pervious concretes produced as reference (without basalt fiber mesh reinforcement) and basalt fiber mesh reinforced (single layer, 2-layer), compressive strength, splitting tensile strength, permeability and bending strength tests were carried out on the produced samples. In conclusion; basalt fiber mesh reinforcement increased the porosity of the pervious concretes, increasing the permeability of the concretes up to 122%. However, with the increase in porosity, basalt fiber lattice layers weakened the bond between aggregates, causing decreases in compressive, tensile and flexural strengths of 60%, 23% and 22%, respectively. When the load-displacement graphs of pervious concretes are examined, it is seen that the samples with basalt fiber mesh reinforcement continue to carry loads, even though the load carrying capacity of the concretes is terminated. The toughness values of the permeable concrete samples reinforced with double basalt fiber mesh were up to 1700% higher value than the reference pervious concrete samples. It has been concluded that the mechanical properties of pervious concrete can be increased by reinforcing basalt fiber mesh and in areas where pervious concrete is used as cladding concrete, permeable concrete reinforced with basalt fiber mesh can also be used easily
