Abstract (EN)

Aim: This study was carried out to determine the anxiety levels of mothers whose babies were treated in the neonatal intensive care unit and their status of receiving family-centered care. Material and Method: This research was carried out in a descriptive and cross-sectional relationship-seeking type with 180 mothers whose babies were treated in Malatya Training and Research Hospital and İnönü University Turgut Özal Medical Center Neonatal Intensive Care Units between December 2022 and May 2023. Data were collected using the Introductory Information Form, the Spielberg State and Trait Anxiety Inventory, and the Neonatal Family Centered Care Scale. In the analysis of data; mean, percentile, chi-square analysis, independent groups t test, one way manova and pearson correlation analysis were used. Results: It was determined that 56.1% of the mothers participating in the study were between the ages of 26-35, 83% had a cesarean section and 62% stayed with their baby. It was determined that 32% of the newborns were at normal birth weight and 41% were between 34-37 weeks. The mothers' state anxiety level mean score was 41.51±9.6, trait anxiety mean score was 40.31±7.7, and they were found to have moderate anxiety. The total score average of the Newborn Family-Centered Care Scale was 3.7±0.7 and the sub-dimension mean scores; Reputation and respect 4.0±0.7, information sharing 3.9±0.8, participation in care 4.0±0.8, family and cooperation 3.3±1.1, the highest points of mothers were participation in care and respect and respect, and the lowest points were cooperation with the family determined. It was determined that there was a negative significant relationship between mothers' family-centered care scale total score and sub-dimension mean score and state and trait anxiety levels (p<0.05). Conclusion: Anxiety scores of mothers whose babies are treated in the neonatal intensive care unit increase as their family-centered care status decreases.
