Relation between self-efficacies of physical education teacher candidates and their attitude towardsv teaching profession

Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this research is to determine and discuss the relation between the self-efficacies of physical education teacher candidates studying at Bartın University and their attitudes towards the teaching profession by using personal knowledge and relevant scale factors. For this purpose the target population of the study consists of the students studying in School of Physical Education and Sports, Department of Physical Education and Sports Teaching; and the sample of the study is made of 217 volunteer students selected via most readily available group who are studying in the School of Physical Education and Sports, Department of Physical Education and Sports Teaching. In order to apply the scales to the sample group researcher met students in person, and thus the students were informed directly. In terms of frequency and percentage distribution according to the variable of sex among the research group about the relation between self-efficacies of physical education teacher candidates and their attitude towards the teaching profession, out of 217 participants of the research group 142 are male and 75 are female (Xage=21.54±2.50). During the examination of the self-efficacy average points of the research sample of the study, there were not any significant statistical discrepancies in terms of the variable of sex, social class, working condition, family income and exercise condition. After the analysis of the self-efficacies in terms of the variables of age and years of sports according to acquired findings, any significant statistical relation could not be confirmed. During the examination of the attitude towards the teaching profession average points of the research sample of the study, there were not any significant statistical discrepancies in terms of the variable of sex, social class, working condition, family income and exercise condition. After the analysis of the attitudes towards the teaching profession in terms of the variable of years of sports according to acquired findings, there is one significant statistical relation which could be confirmed. According to this result, there is low level positive correlation between the variables of years of sports of the research sample and the attitudes towards the teaching profession. As a result of this study, any statistically significant discrepancy could not be found about the relation between attitudes of the research sample towards the teaching profession and their self-efficacies.
