Determination of teaching methods used in physical education and sport courses

The purpose of this research; The aim of this course is to determine the teaching methods used in physical education and sports classes, to evaluate them in terms of demographic variables and to interpret them according to interview reports. There search was designed in accordance with the general survey model. In the research, exploratory mixed method, which is one of the mixed method patterns, was used in which "quantitative and qualitative research methods were used together in the same study. In this direction, in order to determine the teaching methods used by physical education and sports teachers in the quantitative stage of this study, the frequency of using questionnaires the participants by using general survey method was determined and whether or not they differ in terms of demographic variables. In the second stage, qualitative method was used to examine the subject in depth and interview technique was used. Research; As it consists of two main stages, quantitative and qualitative, there are differentgroups of participants belonging to both stages. In this direction, in the quantitative stage of thestudy; It consists of physical education and sports teachers working in Bartın province in 2018-2019 academic year. Since the entire universe was reached, sampling was not taken. When the qualitative phase of the study was started, the study group consisted of 15 physical education and sports teachers (11 maleand 4 female) selected by snowball sampling method. In the study; ''personal information form'' used in order to determine demographic information of physical education and sports teachers, "questionnaire of using teaching methods frequency'' to determine the teaching methods used by physical education and sports teachers and "semi-structured interview form'' used in order to elaborate the quantitative results obtained. The analysis of the quantitative data obtained from the study was conducted using SPSS 23.0 version, descriptive analysis and chi-square test were used, and qualitative data were analyzed using content analysis method. According to the results of the research; physical education and sports teachers preferred "Demonstration, Command, Paired Work, Participation and Exercise" methods which are the most common teacher-centered teaching methods compared to other teaching methods, and the least preferred methods were "Project, Directed Invention, Personal Program, Student Initiation and Autonomous Learning "methods. Also; that physical education and sports teachers think that the most effective teaching methods and the most preferred teaching methods are the same; physical education and sports teachers' teaching methods that they think are most effective on the choice of methods they use such as ; Individual differences of students, students' readiness, the physical conditions and equipment of theschool, the duration of the lesson, the students' interests and desires, student-centered method selection, the content of the factors'' and It was found that problems such as "Less Course Time, Inadequate Physical Conditions of the School, Lack of Equipment, Excess of Class Size" were also effective and all these factors had a directeffect on the preference of themost used and least use dmethods.
