Abstract (EN)

Current study aims to compare the levels of social appearance anxiety and academic self-efficacy of students studying in different departments of the physical education and sports teaching department and education faculty. In 2016-2017 education and training year, 384 students from college of physical education and sports and other education departments of Sakarya University participated in the study. "Academic Autonomy Scale" was utilized to determine the academic self-efficacy levels of the participants and "Social Appearance Anxiety Scale" was used to determine the social appearance anxiety. SPSS 22 program was performed for the analysis of the data obtained. Frequency analysis was used to determine frequency and percentage distributions of participants' demographic features, on the other hand descriptive statistics were used to determine average scores from the scales. MANOVA analysis was used to compare participants' scale scores according to demographic variables. Pearson Correlation Analysis was used to examine the correlation between Social Appearance Anxiety and Academic Self-Efficacy Scales. One Way ANOVA analysis was used to compare scale scores as school type anda age. Independent Samples t test was used to compare scale scores as gender. If there was difference between groups in result of One Way ANOVA, Tukey test was used to identify difference in which groups. As a result of the study, participants' academic self-efficacy levels were found to be moderate. When considered in terms of demographic variables, participants' academic self-efficacy levels were statistically analyzed according to the education level, age group, grade of study, academic achievement level, family structure, places where most of their lives passed, parental education level and monthly income level variables (P <0.05). On the other hand, it was determined that the level of academic self-efficacy did not show any significant difference according to variables of gender and body mass index (p> 0.05). Participants were found to have below-moderate level of social appearance anxieties. When the demographic variables were handled, it was seen that the social appearance anxieties of the participants showed a statistically significant difference according to the education level, the place where the majority of their lives passed, and the level of father graduation (p <0.05). On the other hand, it was determined that the social appearance anxieties of the participants did not show statistically significant differences according to age, body mass index, gender, grade of education, academic achievement, family structure, mother graduation level and monthly income status (p> 0.05). When the correlation between the scales were evaluated, it was found that there was an inverse relationship between the social appearance anxiety and the academic self-efficacy sub-dimensions of the participants, social status, cognitive applications and total academic self-efficacy levels, but this correlation was not statistically significant (p> 0,05) It was also found that there was an opposite and meaningful relationship between participants' appearance anxiety, technical skills and their self-efficacy level (p <0.05). Key Words University students, social appearance anxiety, academic self-efficacy
