Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between physical education and sports teachers and candidates' attitudes towards teaching profession, free time interests and benefit levels for recreation activities in Bartın province. The sample of the research is the Physical Education and Sports teachers and pre-service teachers studying at the department of Physical Education and Sports Teaching. The survey sample of the study is the physical Education and Sports teachers who work at provincial and district directorates and village schools during 2017-2018 semester in Bartın and the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade students at the department of Physical Education and Sports Teaching, Physical Education and Sports School at Bartın University. 97 Physical Education and Sports teachers and 249 Physical Education and Sports preservice teachers are included in the study. The sample of the study consists of 84 physical education and sports teachers including 19 women and 65 men working in public schools affiliated to the Ministry of Education in Bartın province and 240 preservice teachers including 90 women and 150 men studying at the department of Physical Education and Sports Teaching. SPSS 17.0 package program was used in the analyzing the collected data. In the study, 'Personal Information Form' developed by the researcher, 'Attitude Scale towards Teaching Profession' developed by Üstüner (2006), 'Recreational Benefit Scale' adapted into Turkish doing validity and realibity test by Akgül, Karaküçük and Ertüzün's (2018) and 'Free Time Care Scale' developed by Kyle et. al (2007) and adapted into Turkish by Gürbüz et. al (2015) were used as data collection instruments. In the analysis of the data, according to the demographic characteristics of the participants, t-Test and ANOVA were used to compare the levels of attitudes towards teaching profession, free time interest and the benefit levels for recreational activities and TUKEY test was used to determine the differences between the groups. Pearson Correlation analysis was applied in order to reveal the relationship between the attitudes of the participants towards the teaching profession, free time interests and the benefit levels for recreational activities. Mann Whitney U test and Kruskal-Wallis tests were used for data not showing normal distribution. According to the results of t-Test, there was a significant difference between the levels of free time interest of physical education and sports teachers and candidates and the attitudes of physical education and sports teachers and candidates towards the teaching profession (p <0.05). According to ANOVA results, a significant difference was found between age and free time interest and attitudes towards teaching profession; between benefit levels for recreation activities according to the sports branch; between attitudes towards teaching profession according to the year of sports; between the grade levels and the benefit levels for recreational activities (p <0.05). According to the Pearson Correlation Test conducted to evaluate the relationship between ASTTP, RBS and FTCS scores, there was significant and positive relationship between FTCS and RBS at a medium level, weak and negative effect between FTCS and ASTTP; and weak and negative effect between RB and ASTTP of the physical education and sports teachers and candidates. As the free time interests of physical education and sports teachers and candidates increase, the benefits of recreation will increase in parallel. As the attitudes of the physical education and sports teachers and candidates towards the teaching profession increase, free time interests will decrease. As the attitudes of physical education and sports teachers and candidates towards the teaching profession increase, the benefits of recreation will decrease. According to the Mann-Whitney U test results, a significant difference was found between the district served and the benefit levels of recreational activities.
