Abstract (EN)
This descriptive research aimed at comparing problem solving skills against stress of the students studying in the School of Physical Education and Sport and those studying in the Department of Primary School Teaching, Faculty of Education. The research was conducted in Ahi Evran University in the province of Kırsehir in spring semester of the 2006-2007 academic year. The research was carried out on 200 students in total studying in the School of Physical Education and Sport, and in the Department of Primary School Teaching, Division of Elementary Teaching. In this research, ?Stress Inventory? developed by Rosenbaum (1980) and adapted into Turkish by Dag (1981) and Siva (1991), ?Problem Solving Inventory? developed by Heppner and Peterson (1982) and adapted into Turkish by Sahin and Heppner (1993), and ? Personal Information Form? developed by researcher were used as data collection tools. Within the framework of general aim of the research conducted in 2006-2007 academic year; in order to obtain necessary statistical solutions to data collected for sub problems to be responded, SPSS (Statistical Packet for Social Sciences) program was used. In the research, (f) frequency (%) percentage, ( X ) arithmetic mean, One-Way Anova and correlation analyses were utilized. By means of the analysis of the data determined in process of research, the following results were achieved: v 1. The relation between total scores of stress of the students studying in Physical Education Teaching and the variables such as gender, stages of education, monthly income, their home country and leisure time activities was not statistically found significant. While the relation between total scores of stress of the students studying in the Department of Primary School Teaching and the variables such as gender, stages of education, monthly income was found statistically significant, the total scores of stress of the students studying in the Department of Primary School Teaching and the variables such as home country and leisure time activities was not found statistically significant. 2. While there was no difference statistically between total scores in problem solving skills of the students studying in the Department of Primary School Teaching and such variables as gender, monthly income level, home country, and their favorite activities in their leisure time, stage of education was found statistically significant. While there was no difference statistically between total scores in problem solving skills of the students studying in Physical Education Teaching and such variables as monthly income level, home country, and their favorite activities in their leisure time, gender and stage of education were found statistically significant. 3. While there was no difference statistically between total scores of stress of students studying in Physical Education Teaching and total scores of stress of students studying in Primary School Teaching, there was also no difference statistically between total scores in problem solving skills of students studying in Physical Education Teaching and total scores in problem solving skills of students studying in Primary School Teaching. 4. There was observed a negative and significant relationship in moderate level between total scores in problem solving skills of students studying in Physical Education Teaching and total scores of stress. In the same way, there was also observed a negative and significant relationship in moderate level between total scores in problem solving skills of students studying in Primary School Teaching and total scores of stress
