Investigation of leadership orientations and self-confidence behaviors of physical education and sports school students (Example of Gümüşhane)

Considering the criteria such as influencing people on the basis of leadership and helping them reach the determined goals, it can be said that teachers, who are the executives of educational activities, exhibit leadership behaviors by influencing students. Determining the leadership orientations of the students gains importance in determining the negative of other behavioral characteristics. For this purpose, leadership orientations and self-confidence behaviors of students studying at Gumushane University School of Physical Education and Sports were examined. The research was created by randomly selecting 402 students studying in the Physical Education and Sports Teaching department of Gümüşhane University in the 2021-2022 academic year. Participants were reached through a questionnaire form. In our study, the "Leadership Orientation Scale" developed by Bolman and Deal and adapted into Turkish by Dereli, and the "Self-Confidence Scale" developed by Akın to determine the self-confidence levels of students were used. Relational screening method was used in the research. It has been determined that the students participating in the research have high self-confidence behaviors and leadership orientations. It was determined that the highest leadership orientation was human-oriented Leadership orientation, and the lowest leadership orientation was transformational leadership orientation. Students showed similar behaviors according to gender and age variable. It has been determined that the self-confidence behaviors of the students who are interested in individual branches, fourth grade students and those who have been doing sports for more than 10 years are higher. It was determined that the leadership tendencies of the students were similar according to gender, age, branch and department variables. It has been determined that the fourth grade and 7 years and above students' leadership tendencies are higher towards Human and charismatic.
