Abstract (EN)

This study was conducted in order to determine the relationship between emotional hunger states, hopelessness levels and food consumption in individuals who are obese or normal according to their body mass index (BMI), and if there is a relationship, the direction of this relationship according to body mass index. This study is a total of 200 adult participants, 71 females and 101 males, aged 18-65 who are normal or obese according to BMI, who applied to Belmen Aslan Nutrition and Counseling Center in Ankara between December 2019 and February 2020 and volunteered to participate in the study. Made with. A questionnaire form questioning the demographic characteristics, anthropometric measurements, physical activity and disease states of the individuals was administered by face to face interviews. Nutritional status of the patients were evaluated with 3-day Food Consumption Record, emotional appetite status with Emotional Appetite Questionnaire (DIA), and hopelessness levels with Beck Hopelessness Scale (BHS). Anthropometric measurements of the individuals were taken. Among the individuals participating in the study, the average BMI of women is 26.4 ± 5.55 kg / m2, while the average of men is 29.6 ± 4.85 kg / m2. Considering the nutritional consumption of the individuals participating in the study, it was seen that the total energy intake was higher with their daily diet compared to women, in addition, the protein (g), carbohydrate (g) and fat (g) they received in their daily diet were statistically significantly higher (p < 0.05). It was found that it was statistically significant that the percentage of daily energy intake coming from fat was lower in men compared to women (p <0.05). On the contrary, there was no statistically significant difference between genders for the percentage of daily energy intake coming from protein and carbohydrate (p> 0.05). There was no statistically significant difference between the genders in the individuals participating in the study in terms of positive and negative scores on the emotional appetite questionnaire (p> 0.05). It was determined that the positive and negative emotional appetite scores of obese individuals were higher in women compared to normal individuals and this difference was statistically significant (p <0.05). In male individuals, there is no significant relationship between body mass index and emotional appetite questionnaire (p> 0.05). The relationship between food consumption emotional appetite questionnaire positive score, BMI, energy (kcal), protein (g), fat (g) and fiber intake values were found to be positively, weakly and statistically significant (p <0.05). A weak statistically significant negative correlation was found between carbohydrate (%) intake value and DIA negative score in individuals (p <0.05) but the opposite was not statistically significant (p> 0.05). Individuals have positive, weak and weak levels of vitamin D, vitamin E, vitamin K, vitamin B1, vitamin B2, vitamin B12, sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, iron, zinc, iodine intake values taken with daily diet and DIA positive score. A statistically significant relationship was found (p <0.05). It was found that individuals' hopelessness scores and levels were not statistically significantly correlated with gender and body mass index (p> 0.05). In addition, there was no significant relationship between emotional appetite and hopelessness levels (p> 0.05). More studies are needed to understand the relationship between individuals' anthropometric measurements, emotional appetite, hopelessness levels and nutritional status.
