Attitudes towards Turkish language of Turkish children living in Belgium and their writing abilities

This study has been done for the purpose of evaluating written expressions and attitudes respecting Turkish language of Turkish children living in Belgium.Researcher used screening model to evaluate written expressions and attitudes respecting Turkish language of Turkish children living in Belgium in this study. Turkish children living in Belgium are population of this research.Because of impossibility of intercorporate in research, a sample group was constituted. Sample group of this research is 198 Turkish children age ranging between 11-15 and living in Anvers, Gent, Brussel in Belgium selected via randomic method. These children aslo has taken Turkish Language and Turkish Culture Lesson in 35 institutes during 2010-2011 Academic Year.For acquiring data, developed scale by researcher that is named ?An Attitude Scale for Mother Tongue of Turkish Children Living Abroad? (ASMTTCLA) and ?Personal Data Form? was used. For evaluating written expressions of children written materials composed by them was used. For analysing data about mother tongue attitude of Turkish children living in Belgium descriptive statistics, Independent Sample t-test, ANOVA, Levene test, Scheffe test, Mann-Whitney U test, Kruskal-Wallis H test technique, regression analysis and predictive situations was used. The study analyzes the results obtained for 0.05 significance level are interpreted. SPSS 19.0 package program was used for analysing datas.According to datas, it is possible to see that mother tongue attitudes of Turkish children living in Belgium is (ranging between min-max) ultimate level. Although their mother tongue attitudes are positive, written expressions of Turkish children living in Belgium are not so correct. Word and notion transfer between languages (from Flemish to Turkish and from French to Turkish), errors and mistakes in punctuation, consonance mistakes, incoherency, transmitting of speech to written expressions are errors frequently encountered in.Keywords: Turkish Language Education and Teaching, Turkish Children Living Abroad, Attitude Towards Mother Tongue, Writing Skills, Belgium.
