The Effects of municipalities on local tourism facilities (an application on Akçakoca)

SUMMARY THE EFFECTS OF MUNICIPALITIES ON LOCAL TOURISM FACILITIES (AN APPLICATION ON AKÇAKOCA) KEYWORDS Tourism Municipality Local governments This study is made to verify the effect of a municipality on facilities and development of tourism sectoring a region which it is responsible from there. Moreover, this study specifically focuses on the facilities of Akçakoca Municipality about tourism from the point of views of people living there and managers and/or owners of companies which are in tourism sector. We can divide this report into 3 parts. In first part the concept of tourism sector and the factors that are effecting it in a region generally is mentioned. The second part is consist of the effect on tourism sector of municipalities, their responsibilities, their authority and problems of municipalities about tourism sector. And also in this part the studies and facilities of some municipalities of some other nations which are dominant and important at tourism are mentioned. In third part we try to demonstrate the effects of a municipality on tourism sector by an applicational research. For this study, a detailed analysis is made on theoretical basis and a questionnaire is prepared. A sample of 267 people living there (local people) and 72 managers and/or owners of companies which are in tourism sector (managers) is obtained. By the help of this questionnaire, the cultural, promotional, environmental and auditing facilities of Akçakoca Municipality is questioned. All answers of these two groups are examined by the help of statistical methods. As a result of this study, it is seen that local people found the municipality more successful than the managers on promotional facilities. However, local people found the municipality worse than the managers on auditing facilities. The opinions of both groups are similar about cultural and environmental facilities of municipality. XI
