Evaluation of Belemedik Nature Park and its surroundings within the framework of cultural landscape

Today, "cultural landscape", which is differentiated within the definition of landscape, is a concept that is formed by the interaction of both cultural and natural heritage in the same area in a certain historical process. "Cultural landscape", which was accepted as an academic term in the 20th century in the world, has been discussed in Turkey for the last two decades. Making cultural landscape studies plays an important role in transferring these values to the future. Within the scope of this study, Adana-Pozantı Belemedik Nature Park and its surroundings, which are considered to be important as a cultural landscape, have been declared as a protected area by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, General Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks. At different points in the area, there are tunnels, German Cemetery, Varda Viaduct, Hacıkırı Station Structure and the Belemedik station structure, which is not in use at the moment, together with the structures that were built by the German contractor during the construction of the Berlin-Baghdad railway, the construction of which was started in 1903, and which is in derelict condition today. In addition, woodcutters brought to the region for the Berlin-Baghdad Railway project maintain their original culture until today. The aim of the study is to consider the natural and tangible-intangible cultural heritage items holistically within the framework of the cultural landscape. By examining the historical photographs, aerial photographs of the past years and archive documents, the results and suggestions were put forward, which were evaluated with the survey study, stakeholder interviews and GZFT analysis.
