Investigetion of the relationship between intolerance of uncertanity, cognitive flexibility, general procrastination and academic procrastination

Abstract (EN)

This research was figured out to examine the relationship between intolerance of uncertainty and cognitive flexibility, and between general procrastination and academic procrastination. There are 406 people in the study, 203 women and 203 men, these participants are in the 18-54 age range. In the research; Voluntary Participation Form, Sociodemographic Information Form, Intolerance of Uncertainty Scale, Cognitive Flexibility Scale, General Procrastination Scale, and Academic Procrastination Scale were used. Independent groups t-test and ANOVA were applied to analyse, the difference of scale scores in terms of demographic variables. According to the results of this analysis, it was found that there was no significant difference between intolerance of uncertainty and gender. It was determined that women's cognitive flexibility level was significantly higher than men's, and men's academic and general procrastination levels were higher than women's. It was concluded that the level of intolerance to uncertainty of the participants with high education level was lower than the participants with low education level. It was noted that participants with a high level of education's cognitive flexibility levels were also high, but general and academic procrastination levels were low. According to the results of the correlation analysis for the research variables, a negative relationship was found between intolerance to uncertainty and cognitive flexibility. A positive relationship was found between intolerance of uncertainty and academic procrastination and general procrastination. There was no negative relationship between cognitive flexibility and academic procrastination, and no relationship between general procrastination. According to the Multiple Linear Regression analysis findings, it was determined that cognitive flexibility and intolerance to uncertainty were significant predictors of academic procrastination and general procrastination, cognitive flexibility was a protective factor in academic and general procrastination, and intolerance to uncertainty was a risk factor. The findings were compared and discussed with other research findings in the literature.
