The adsorption of metal complex dyes onto bentonite, zeolite and pine sawdust

Abstract (EN)

In this study, the adsorption of Metal Complex Yellow (Lansan Yellow CFB) and Metal Complex Brillant Blue (Lansan Brillant Blue CF-BA) on Bentonite, Zeolite and pine shavings were examined by changing the parameters that include particle size, pH, mixing rate, adsorbent mass, initial dye concentration and temperature. Thus the conditions of maximum dye adsorption were investigated with different parameters. Adsorption parameters for Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms were determined and discussed. At the end of the study, it was found that it could be enough each three adsorbent, bentonite, zeolite and pine sawdust, which will adsorp metal complex dye. It was seen that adsorbent mass, pH, mixing rate and temperature are significant for adsorption. For three adsorbent, when temprature is increased, decrease amount of dye adsorbed was seen. When particle size was investigated for metal complex dyes, the particles which have 75-90 urn size has the highest adsorption capacity onto bentonite. When particle size was investigated for MK yellow dyes, the particles which have 53-75 p.m size has the highest adsorption capacity onto zeolite. When particle size was investigated for MK brillant blue dyes, the particles which have <53 jim size has the highest adsorption capacity onto zeolite. When particle size was investigated for MK yellow dyes, the particles which have 90-150 um size has the highest adsorption capacity onto pine sawdust. When particle size was investigated for MK brillant blue dyes, the particles which have 75-90 um size has the highest adsorption capacity onto pine sawdust. By chancing mixing rate, it was seen variation of adsorbtion rate metal complex dyes onto each three adsrobents. Generally, high and low mixinf rate numberse increase amount of dye adsorbing. For three adsorbent, although adsorbent mass was constant, when initial dye concentration was increased, a linear increase in the amount of dye adsorbed was seen. This situation shows that capacity of adsorbent is high. On the other hand, when the constants of isotherms were investigated, it was seen that adsorption process fits two adsorption models, but it fits Langmuir isotherm better. To sum up, after suitable processes, it was observed that bentonit, zeolite and pine sawdust can be used to remove metal complex dyes as an adsorbent.
