Algal composition and ecology of dam lakes in Berdan river basin (Kadincik 1, Kadincik 2 and Berdan)

Abstract (EN)

This paper presents the findings of a study into the algae composition and ecology of the Dam Lakes in Berdan River Basin between February and December 2007 and their seasonal variation.During the study, of the 95 taxa found in the phytoplakton, 49 belonged to Bacillariophyta, 20 to Chlorophyta, 8 to Cyanobacteria, 7 to Streptophyta, 4 to Dinoflagellata, 3 to Euglenophyta, 3 to Cryptophyta and 1 to Heterokontophyta.77 taxa of epilithic algae were found, 45 of which belonged to Bacillariophyta, 20 to Cyanobacteria, 7 to Chlorophyta, 3 to Streptophyta, 1 to Dinoflagellata and 1 to Euglenophyta. In total 94 taxa of epiphytic algae were identified, 66 of which belonged to Bacillariophyta, 14 to Cyanobacteria, 6 to Chlorophyta, 5 to Streptophyta, 2 to Euglenophyta and 1 to Dinoflagellata; epipelic algae were represented by 62 taxa, 43 of which were from Bacillariophyta, 10 from Cyanobacteria, 5 from Streptophyta, 3 from Chlorophyta and 1 from Euglenophyta.By applying Canonical Correpondence Analysis to the density of species, 12 environmental variables (silicate, temperature, conductivity, alkalinity, nitrate, total phosphorus, dissolved oxygen, calcium, nitrite, pH, suspended solids, depth) were found to be important in the algae composition.
