Ethnobotanical characteristics of plants in Bergama (İzmir) neighborhood markets

Abstract (EN)
This study is focused on the public bazaars set up in the different areas of Bergama district of Izmir between the years 2021-2022. The data regarding the ethnobotanical characteristics of the plants in the neighborhood markets come from the surveys conducted on people from different ages, genders and educational levels. In this study, the preliminary data were obtained from neighborhood markets in the district center in line with their using applications. Through these workings, 69 genus and 73 species and subspecies plant taxa belonging to 34 family were determined. As a result of the research carried out in Bergama (İzmir) district bazaars, it was determined that 55 taxa were used for food, 43 taxa were used for medicinal purposes and 3 taxa were used for other (tool-gadged, paint and belief) purposes in the region. This study not only aims at determining the ethnobotanical characteristics of the plants in the cultural treasure of Bergama district and transfering this knowledge to future generations, but also make contributionto scientific world determining the methods of using natural resources correctly.
