A review about the relation between the perceptions of the role of paternity of fathers having 5-6 years old children and their performance of family involvement studies

This is a descriptive research aiming to explore the relationship between perception of paternity role, Involvement in family involvement studies implemented by preschool institutions and perception of fatherhood role with family involvement studies of fathers having 5-6 years old children who are the students of officially independent kindergartens authorized by Ankara National Education Directorate in 2010-2011.650 fathers out of 7807 were selected as sample from the schools representing sample population. In this research, ? =0,01 level has been chosen. In the research, Personal Information Form, Fatherhood Role Perception Scale and Family Involvement Scale were used as data collection tools.In the analysis of data, firstly, descriptive statistics related to demographic features of the sample were calculated. The points of Fatherhood Role Perception Scale and total Family Involvement Scale and subscale points were tested by using t-test and searched if the gender of child, number of siblings, and the age of father and his level of education were statistically significant due to these points. Total Family Involvement Scale and Fatherhood Role Perception Scale with subscale points were evaluated using one side variance analysis in order to find out if there were a differences between these points due child?s birth order and family income. Significantly, differences between groups as a result of ANOVA were performed with Turkey Multiple Comparison Test. Correlations between variables were analyzed with Pearson correlation coefficient. Finally, father?s age when he first became a father and fatherhood role perception, family Involvement subscale procedure levels were evaluated by a multivariate analysis called path analysis. Statistical significance was considered p<.05. SPSS15 and LISREL 8.17 software programs were used in the analysis.As a result of the research: Gender of child does not affect fatherhood role and family Involvement. Fathers having their first child have higher perception of fatherhood role and home-based family Involvement. Fathers with one child have higher perception of fatherhood role and higher level of home-based family Involvement than fathers with two or more children. As father?s age grows, so does his Involvement, too. As fathers? education level and economic status improve, their perception fatherhood role and family involvement improve, too. As their age of being a father for the first time is becoming older, so does their family Involvement level. Fathers with high perception of fatherhood participate more studies of family Involvement.Key words: Fatherhood Role Perception, Family Involvement
