The semantic shift in the holy Quran in the light of Bessâm Sa'i's views

This research revolves around studying the phenomenon of semantic shift in the words of the Holy Quran, through analysing the views of Bessâm Sa'i, as one of the contemporary researchers who presented a contemplative linguistic reading of the Quranic text, starting from the extrapolation of Quranic words in their context and analysing their semantic shifts within the structure of the Quranic text. He presented a linguistic and interpretative approach that seeks to reveal the dimensions of semantic shift caused by Quranic words within the textual context. The study began with an examination of the substitutive type of shift, focusing on the semantic shift in the meaning of a noun or verb in light of the context, without delving into structures, sentences or tools. In its theoretical chapter, the study presents the concept of shift, its terminology, types, criteria, and importance, with reference to the most prominent scholars who have addressed it in the Arab heritage and Western studies. It also discusses Dr. Bessâm Sa'i's linguistic project and his method of analysing Qur'anic terms. On the practical side, semantic shifts in Qur'anic terms have been classified into five levels: linguistic, semantic, cultural-intellectual, rhetorical, and literary, with selected examples analysed in light of the approach adopted by Sa'i. This study seeks to contribute to the enrichment of linguistic research on the Holy Qur'an by highlighting one of the concepts of contemporary semantic analysis and linking it to Qur'anic vocabulary within the framework of a linguistic and semantic study based on modern contextual analysis.
