Abstract (EN)

The information compiled in this report was written following a logicalsequence intended to help the engineer in the evaluation processMasonry is one of the oldest construction materials currently in usearound the world for reasons that include acessibility, unctionality, and cost. This material has been used for hundreds of years inconstruction projects ranging from simple roadw ays to complex archdesigns. Masonry has also commonly been used in frame buildingstructures as infill, where it was intended to act as an environmentaldivider rather than a structural element. The primary function ofmasonry was either to protect the inside of the structure from theenvironment (rain, snow, wind, etc.) or to divide inside spaces. Ineither case, common practice has always been to ignore infill duringthe design and analysis of steel/reinforced concrete frame structures. The influence of infills on overall behavior of the structure has beenfound tochange with the direction in which the load is applied. Thisreport gives guidelines on evaluating the lateral load capacity ofinfilled panels for in-plane loading. Further, guidelines are given thataccount for the effect of out-of-plane loading on in-plane capacity. You cann see all the effect of masonry wall on the structers inthis report.
