Abstract (EN)
Ductility is a highly desirable attribute of reinforced concrete structures which must be takeninto account in their design. A ductile structure can adapt unexpected and unpredictableactions better than a non-ductile structure, such as imposed deformations due to differentialsettlement or temperature variations and changes in loads. In an indeterminate member, suchas a continuous beam, sufficient ductility must first exist to achieve the design load and avoida fragile collapse of the structure by ensuring adequate deformation at the ultimate limit state.If sufficient ductility exist in highly stressed regions of an indeterminate member, then astructural designer can take advantage of the ability of the system to redistribute internalactions to less highly stressed regions. This way the amount of reinforcement in criticalregions can be reduced which can result in a more economical design. A linear analysis of aductile reinforced structure, with factored loads acting on, is made in this paper and acomparative study is carried out on TS500-2000 Turkish code and ACI318-02 related to themoment redistribution permitted.
