Abstract (EN)
In hige-rise building systems, the use of shear walls with coupling beam is widespread due to some gaps through the structures (doors, windows etc.). However, since these coupling beams can take seriously damage after the earthquakes, it may be necessary to repair the connection elements. In design, it is generally anticipated that these elements will already reach very high deformations and damages. Repairing in this case will cause a certain financial cost and building to be out of use for some time. In this thesis study, it was observed that how to change the behaviour of earthquake in the whole system connected with shear walls and coupling beams, if a steel damper working bidirectional in vertical direction to the midpoint of reinforced concrete coupling beams. When the steel cushion elements are used, the effect on the total building behaviour is investigated whether that the energy damped which will be released after the earthquake in the coupling beams. The first part of master's thesis, which consist of five parts, is given for descriptions of the subject and the purpose and scope of the thesis. In the second part, useful information has been given to contribute to the topic of thesis after literature review. In the third part of the thesis, the properties of the steel cushion to be used are examined in detail. In the fourth part, the nonlinear time history analysis of two different models is performed in the finite element program used and the results are compared. One of these models has a damper, while the other model is designed with a known normal coupling beam. In these models, the frame elements are neglected and only the shear walls with coupling beam are designed to be two dimensional (x-z). In the fifth part, the question asked for the purpose of the thesis has been answered as mentioned above. At the end of the thesis study, it has been determined that steel cushion improves the structural behaviour of the steel cushion elements which can be easily replaced after the earthquake when the structure participates in energy damping capacity.
