Abstract (EN)

Aim:It is the examination of the effect of different whitening toothpastes on CAD/CAM block materials that have been discolored by cigarette smoke. Materials and Methods: Three different CAD/CAM blocks, Gc Initial LiSi, Lava Ultimate, and Voco Grandio, were used in the study. The blocks were sectioned into slices (1.5×7×7mm) using a precision cutting device. The initial color values of the samples were measured and then exposed to cigarette smoke for staining. Afterward, the samples were randomly and 4 divided into 4 groups brushed for 4 minutes using different whitening toothpastes: Control (Sensodyne Deep Clean), Hydrogen peroxide (Colgate Optic White/Expert White), Activated charcoal (Colgate Optic White/Charcoal), and Micro-particle-containing toothpaste (Oral B 3D White Luxe/Perfection). The color values of the samples were measured again using a dental spectrophotometer device (VITA Easyshade V) and color changes were calculated according to the CIEDE2000 color system. Color analysis of the samples was conducted after staining(ΔE001), and after brushing(ΔE002). One-way analysis of Variance and Tukey multiple comparison test were used for the statistical evaluation of the data. Results:After exposure to cigarette smoke, the highest color change among the groups was observed in Lava Ultimate block group, while the lowest color change was detected in Gc Initial Lisi block group(p<0,05). When the block materials were evaluated within each group, it no statistically significant difference was detected in color change values among the toothpaste groups(p>0,05). When examining the color parameters of all block groups, it was detected that after staining, L* value decreased compared to the initial values, while a* and b* values increased. After brushing, it was observed that L* values increased, and a* and b* values decreased. Conclusion: While CAD/CAM blocks exposed to cigarette smoke exhibited varying degrees of color change, all blocks ΔE002 values were below the acceptable threshold (ΔE00=1.8) after brushing with whitening toothpaste.
