The knowledge, attitudes and behaviours of Dicle University Medical Faculty hospitals clinicians diagnosing brain death about organ-tissue transplantation

Aim: Our survey was conducted in Dicle University Medical Faculty and Diyarbakir Gazi Yaşargil Training and Research Hospital in Diyarbakir to evaluate the knowledge, attitudes and behaviours of the clinicians diagnosing brain death about the organ-tissue transplantation. In this study, the assistant-specialist doctors of anaesthesia and reanimation, neurology and neurosurgery, intensive care branch specialists and related branch instructors were investigated by a questionnaire consisting of 50 questions about the knowledge, attitudes and behaviours of the clinicians diagnosing brain death. Materials and Methods: For the statistical tests, SPSS 21.0 was used. The square-to-square test utilized for categorical data. The significance limit was accepted as p<0.05 in statistical analyzes. Descriptive statistical data were used for our study. Findings :A total of 88 clinicians participated in our study where 38 (43.2%) of women's and 50 (56.8%) of men's data were obtained. When the questions were grouped as knowledge and attitude behaviors, there were statistically significant differences in the answers with the square-to-square comparisons. Conclusion:. The first and most important step towards the aim of increasing organ donation is to undertake studies that will ensure all the individuals of community become conscious of organ transplantation.
