Abstract (EN)

This study was carried out to elucidate the effect of activities prepared for the teaching medium established according to brain based biology education on the learning levels of 9th grade students related to the topic of ?transfer of matter in the cell? and their attitudes towards biology course.The pre test-post test control group containing model was employed in the study. The experimental and control groups were class 9/A and class 9/L studying in Anıttepe High school in Cankaya town of Ankara province in 2007-2008 academic year assigned by a non-biased manner. At the beginning of the study, the experimental and control groups matched considering individual characteristics and their pre-knowledge level. There were 22 students in the experimental and control groups each.The data collection tools used in the study were, personal information survey, achievement test related to the topic of ?transfer of matter in the cell?, attitude scale and students? opinion survey. The data obtained were analyzed by SPSS software using t-test for the independent groups and t-test and percentage frequency analysis for the dependent groups. The results obtained from the analyzes revealed that academic achievement rate of the experimental group where the topic of ?transfer of matter in the cell? was given by the use of brain based learning activities was higher than the control group who were subjected to the traditional education method. It was also concluded that this method did not cause appreciable change in the attitude of the students towards the biology course however the student enjoy the lectures being given with activities.Key Words: Brain Based Learning, Biology Teaching, Achievement, Attitude
