The effect of grammar applications organized according to brai̇n-based learning approach to academic success

Grammar is the one of the basic skills of language lessons. According to data's of scientific researchs, some problems are encountered in grammar education. The aim of this study is to determine effect of brain based learning approach on success of sixth grade students on Turkish grammar topics (preposition, connectives, exclamation). In accordance with this purpose, "mixed method" which is the method that quantitative and qualitative researching techniques is used together, has been used in this study. The research was conducted on sixth grade student which received education in second semester of 2017-2018 education term at Mengen Atatürk Secondary School in Mengen district of Bolu province. The study group consisted of 37 students, 17 of whom were in the experimental group and 20 of them in the control group. The research has been restricted with word types (preposition, connectives, exclamation) which is a part of Turkish grammar topics. For lessons done in process of research; lesson plans has been prepared convenient to Duman's (2015) "seven-stage baseline of brain based planning" named model of planning which adapted from Jensen (2000), activities and teaching materials has been designed to use in class exercises. In order to collect data, a success test consisting of 20 multiple choice questions has been developed in research. SPSS v25 package was used for statistical analysis of quantitative data acquired from research. Qualitative data were analysed with "content analysis" technique. Data analysis results obtained with mentioned programme and technique is as below: Results of achievement test performed in the quantitative part of research show that a meaningful difference emerges in favor of experimental group. It is understood from datas in qualitative part that activities which is done in lessons like drama,game,competition attracts interest of student and this approach makes lessons more enjoyable. In addition, it can be understood from resarcher's notes that interest of student can reduce, lessons can be perceived as a means of entertainment, students may move away from the main purpose by conditioning to some applications.
