Investigation of the effect of formative assessment applications on the success of students in Turkish course

The aim of this research is to examine the effects of formal evaluation practices in Turkish lessons on the success of students in Turkish lessons. A mixed model, in which qualitative and quantitative research methods are used together, was used in the research. In this context, the quantitative and qualitative data obtained as a result of the research were interpreted by relating them to each other. In the research; The achievement test and semi-structured interview form developed by the researcher were used as data collection tools. In the experimental process, while teaching the experimental group through formative assessment practices; The control group was taught in line with the current curriculum. Experimental design with pretest-posttest control group was used in the quantitative dimension of the study and the quantitative data obtained were analyzed using the SPSS 15 package program. Independent and dependent groups T-test was used for quantitative analysis. Qualitative data were analyzed with descriptive analysis technique. According to the quantitative results obtained in the research; While there was no significant difference between the pre-test and post-test results of the control group; The post-test results of the experimental group showed a significant positive difference compared to the pre-test results. When the post-test results of the experimental and control groups were examined, a statistically significant difference was observed, and it was concluded that teaching with formative assessment practices increased student achievement more than traditional teaching methods. As a result of the observations and interviews made by the researcher, it was concluded that the students' perspective on formative assessment practices changed positively. Based on these results, it is possible to say that formative assessment practices both increase the academic achievement of students and change their view of the course in a positive way.
