Investigating the knowledge and awareness levels of information and records management students on e-learning and ethics: Example of Atatürk University

Tools of electronic learning (e-learning) such as computers, tablets and mobile phones that are increasingly providing internet access everywhere and all the time with the age of information have become a part of life. While e-learning resources make it easier to access information, they bring about several ethical problems. It is important that the information experts of the future, who will use e-learning resources professionally as their field of work, are responsible and show awareness regarding e-learning and ethics. Therefore, the study aimed to determine the skills of students of Information and Record Management and their attitudes towards ethical values. The method of description was utilized in the first stage of the study. Current literature information was reached on domestic and international sources. In the second stage, a sample was selected based on the methods of observation. The sample consisted of students of the Department of Information and Record Management at Atatürk University who volunteered to participate. The study included a total of 295 students. Surveys were applied in the sample. The data were analyzed using the SPSS 16.0 software. In the study, 65,8% (194) of the students were female and 34,2% (101) were male, while their mean age was 21- 22 year. It was determined that %72,9 (212) of the participants did not receive education on e-learning and that e-learning was an effective tool in eliminating obstacles due to physical and geographical barriers. It has been determined that e-learning increases unethical behavior such as copyright, plagiarism. According to researc findings the result of the reseach show that Information and Records Management students need to receive training on e-learning tools and e-learning ethics to increase their information and awareness.
