Artificial intelligence applications in information centers: General situation analysis for Turkey

Information centers / libraries are the centers that provide printed and electronic resources to the user service for accurate and reliable information, shaping their services with the developing technology apart from this essential duty and shaped according to the changing user profile. Artificial intelligence and artificial intelligence applications have an important place in every sector today. This study was designed to examine the state and development of artificial intelligence and artificial intelligence applications both in general and in information centers / libraries around the world and to make a situation assessment in order to raise awareness on this issue in information centers / libraries in our country. For this purpose, questions about the views of the information center / library managers were compiled and evaluations were made on these questions. The questions were conveyed to the information center / library managers through interview technique and the findings of the research were formed by analyzing the data. Questions, URAP (University Ranking by Academic Performance) which was established in September 2018 2018-2019 URAP located in Turkey hundred fifty seven Ranking list of the university's information centers / libraries manager has communicated with the interview technique. In line with the answers received from 70 people, state and foundation universities, managers have knowledge about the concept of artificial intelligence and artificial intelligence applications, artificial intelligence development in our country is not enough, they follow both professional and non-professional developments in this field, artificial intelligence applications in the information center / library services widespread. Factors such as budget and personnel play an important role in the reflection and development of artificial intelligence and artificial intelligence applications in information center / library services. It has been realized in the direction of the answers that it is necessary to hire trained and / or qualified personnel about artificial intelligence and artificial intelligence applications and to solve the budget problems.
