Examination of relationship between depression tendency and personal properties of high school youngs at information society era

Depression is one of the most common psychological problems and more seen at individuals in high school age. In addition, the relationship between depression and personality properties is a topic focused in literature. On the other hand, there has not been enough research focusing on the relationship between depression and personality properties at information society era when social structure is changing and sociality becomes more fiction. For this reason, it is aimed to examine relationship between depression and personality properties of high school students. In the research, total (n=195) students from Sarıyer, Bayrampaşa, Maltepe, Beylikdüzü, Kadıköy, Fatih and Beşiktaş provinces of Istanbul were voluntarily subjected to the research. A survey form including Depression Scale for Children, Five Factor Personality Scale and Information form was applied to students. According to results of the study, there were statistically significant and negative correlation between depression and self check (p<0,05) and openness to development (p<0,01). There was statistically significant and positive correlation found between depression and emotional contradiction (p<0,001). It may be argued that information society younger more extroversion and openness to development. Key Words: Depression; Five Factor Personality Scale; Information Society.
