Computer aided course material development and an application for the 5th grade geometry course

One of the fastest growing areas of education today is information technology. Many of the work done on the computer is controlled by the computer, and when it is designed as internet based, it has been developed to be used in education. The importance of teaching with technology has contributed to the widespread use of computer aided education (BDE) models. At the beginning of the basic objectives of mathematics education is to make the abstract concepts concrete and to facilitate the processing skill in teaching. The student-centered process provides a convenient way to learn the skills of teaching. In addition, the use and development of technological tools in teaching activities has an important role in acquiring mathematics loving skills. Our research; a training material was developed that would be appropriate to the education system, content, misconceptions, purpose of the course and level of instruction. The purpose of the developed material is to teach the subject of all class compulsions by computer - assisted instruction (BDI) method which is used for preparing the e - book based on the meaningful learning system and to reveal the success effect of the teaching method used. Our research has been prepared taking into account the perspectives of elementary and secondary school mathematics teachers on the education and training system. The methods to be used in mathematics teaching were determined and materials were developed in concrete rather than abstract teaching. The results of the survey made on the provincial basis indicated that the 5th Grade students had difficulty with the quadrangles in the geometry unit of the mathematics course. The research was carried out with 20 students studying in secondary school in the Uşak province in the second semester of 2016/2017 academic year. Twenty students from the 5th grade were selected for the pilot application. First, a preliminary test (pre-test) was carried out to determine how well 20 people were informed about the subject. After completion of the study, an evaluation test (post-test) was conducted to see if the learning had taken place. In this research, general mathematics topics were explained on the smart board with the help of electronic books, and in the computer laboratory children were made permanent learning by making individual learning. The electronic book for material development was prepared with Adobe InDesign. GeoGebra supported teaching is provided for drawings geometric shapes. As a result of the application; the fear of mathematics of the students has decreased and the candidates have changed positively on the point of view of the concepts. There is also a serious decline in the misconceptions in the students. After computer aided instruction (BDI) was performed, data analysis of the tests applied to the students was taken. At the end of the research, to compare the success of the students, the difference between the achievement scores of the geometry unit pretest and posttest and the students were found.
