Abstract (EN)
In this study, a metal detector working in the pulse induction system is implemented. The purpose of the study is mapping the density of the metal by using different signal and image processing techniques through transferring the obtained metal density data to computer environment. Metal density maps are used extensively in the military field, in archaeological surveys, and in the construction sector. In our country, such devices are mostly imported from abroad with high costs. Especially, military dependency abroad is a very risky situation. The main purpose of this study is to reduce our dependence on abroad and to reduce our costs. The system generally consists of a metal detector electronic unit working in pulse induction system, a research coil working as a sensor and a MATLAB environment for signal and image processing. Research coil is connected to metal detector and is a mobile unit. The desired region for the investigation is sampled in certain frequencies and the obtained metal density data is transferred to MATLAB environment through Bluetooth. Clean and correct mapping is obtained by using various signal and image processing techniques to minimize unfavorable factors such as electrical noise, waste metal particles and soil mineral effect. According to study measurements, results show that achieved metal density mapping is highly accurate and is slightly affected from environmental conditions.
