Computer aided shaft design and preparing database

In this study a database giving measurements of diameters of the shafts that have power transmission elements (gears) on have been prepared in the Excel Programme. Besides, a programme which is calculating shafts diameters has been prepared in the medium of Excel. With this database by using techniques of artificial intelligence (artificial neural networks, fuzzy logic) alternative methods can be developed to measure shaft diameters. The database and the programme calculate the diameter of the shaft on which there are three gears and two bearings. In this system spur, helical and bevel gears have been used. The database consists of 27 Excel files in which each has 5 Excel worksheet. The changes of the three types of gears on the shaft (spur gear-helical gear-bevel gear) has formed one Excel book. While constructing the worksheets in the Excel books, the order of the elements on the shaft is taken into consideration (e.g. Gear - Bearing - Gear ? Bearing - Gear). On the columns of Excel worksheets, the necessary inputs for the measurements of shaft diameter, calculations for measurements, and the result of shaft diameter have taken place and on each line there is shaft diameter for different inputs. Additionally, in order to increase the utilization of the database, Excel worksheets and text files which have only input and result values have been prepared. The inputs of the database have been limited for the reason that on the Excel worksheet maximum 65536 lines can be used. Although 135 Excel worksheets, which each vii includes almost 60000 lines, have been constructed, the database covers a limited area due to the limitations. The programme has been prepared to support the database. On the visualization of the programme has been studied.
