The usage of computer technology in school administration, primary school administrators' attitudes towards computer technology, administrators' and teachers' computer usage level

T he aim of the study is to define the usage of computer technology in school administration, primary school administrators? attitudes towards computer technology, administrators? and teachers? computer literacy level. The study was modeled as a survey search. The population of the study consists primary school principals, assistant principals and teachers working in public primary schools in the center of Antalya in 2005-2006 educational years. The data were collected from 161 (%51) administrator questionnaires and 644 (%16) teacher questionnaires in 68 of 129 public primary schools. While school administrators? attitudes towards computer technology were evaluated, a questionnaire described as ?school administrators? attitudes towards computer technology? developed by Altun (2002) was used in the study for gathering data. W hile school principals? and teachers? usage level of computer technology was evaluated, the study was examined that called ?Developing Technology Training for Principals? which was developed by A. Heaton and Lisa A. Washington. A scale called ?Technology Survey for Principals? was developed by these researchers. In the scale, it was questioned how often used word-processing, spreadsheet, data-base, presentation-graphic, email and internet applications in administration. The data and analysis were processed by SPSS. Frequency, percentage, means, standard deviation, LSD and one-way ANOVA tests were used in analyzing to define computer literacy level and attitudes towards computer technology. The statistically significant level was 0,05. As a result of the study, primary school administrators? attitudes towards computer technology were found `very high? about technology and development, technology use, technology administration and acceptance. Their attitudes about pursuing and interest in technology, technology phobia were in `high? level. There was a significant difference in their computer literacy level between school administrators and teachers about using internet, word-processing, data-base, presentation, email, internet applications. In all levels, administrators use computer applications more than teachers. It was examined that primary school teachers use internet, word-processing and e-mail applications in average, excel and presentation softwares in `low? level, data-base applications in `very low? level. It was also examined that school administrators use internet applications in `very high? level, word-processing and e-mail applications in `high? level, excel softwares in average, data-base and presentation softwares in `low? level.
