Evaluation of anthropometric measurements of Clavicula in computerized tomography images for sex determination

Abstract (EN)

This study aims to determine the usability of anthropometric measurements and calculations on the CT image of the clavicula for gender determination. Thoracic CT images taken for diagnostic purposes between 01.01.2013 and 31.12.2024 in the Department of Radiology of Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University Medical Faculty Hospital were divided into three groups as 21-40, 41-60, 61 years and older. A total of 216 images of 108 males and 108 females were analyzed retrospectively. The maximum length of the clavicula (MLC), the curvature length of the clavicula (CLC), the maximum Midklavikular height (MMCH) and the maximum Midklavikular anterior-posterior width (MMCAPW) were measured. After these measurements, The calculated clavicular maximum length to clavicular curvilinear length difference (CMLCCLD), Midklavikular maximum circumference (MCMC), Midklavikular maximum area (MCMA) and Robustness Index (RI) values were calculated using formulas. MLC, CLC, MMCH, MMCAPW parameters were found to be higher and significant in males (p<0.001). CMLCCLD values were higher in males than females on both sides, with a significant difference on the left side (p<0.001). Our calculated MCMW and MCMA values were also higher and significantly higher in males than females on both sides (p<0.001). In RI, there was no significant difference between genders on both sides (p>0.001). According to these results, it was concluded that CMU, CEU, MCMY, MCMAG, MCMW and MCMA could be used to determine sex according to the parties, whereas CMUCEUF and RI values were not safe to be used for sex determination.
