Science public relations within the context of science communication: A review on TUBITAK Science Centers

Science communication provides the transmission of developments in the field. It regulates the communication of scientists, private or public institutions with society. Although science public relations are new in our country, they contribute to science communication. For this reason, the study includes the importance of public relations in science communication. Public relations practitioners should be able to communicate the issue to the recipients in the appropriate language and clarity. It should be able to transfer to the target audience in accordance with the purpose without causing misunderstandings. New communication technologies have brought parallel transformations to the changing times. With the integration of new media into public relations, communication has gained a new form in this direction. Within the scope of science public relations, the social media of TUBITAK science centers are examined by content analysis method and their results are shared. The findings are presented together with the results in the context of the interaction, frequency of sharing, sharing detail and purposes of the centers. Due to the low use of the concept of science public relations in Turkey, the research has originality. The content of the study was concluded with the latest research section by presenting the conceptual framework on information society, science communication concepts, scope and application areas, science public relations and the development of new media. In the research section, the size, level and results of the communication established by TUBITAK Science Centers on social media are communicated in the context of public relations. "Konya, Kocaeli, Istanbul-Uskudar, Elazig, Bursa, Kayseri" science centers were discussed. The centers were examined by content analysis method and the findings were given comparatively with tables and analyses. Determinations are made on the form of science public relations in the new media environment.
