Experiences of social study teachers of the Science and Art Center (BİLSEM) in workshop development process

The purpose of this research; To examine the opinions of the teachers who teach the social studies course at the Science and Art Center (BİLSEM) about their workshop experiences and their practices in the teaching process. In this way, it is to reveal the effect of workshop activities on social studies teaching. In this study, qualitative research method was used and criterion sampling was taken as basis in determining the study group. The participants of the research consist of 66 teachers who teach social studies in Science and Art Centers across Turkey. The data of the research were collected through semi-structured interview forms. This collected data were analyzed using descriptive analysis technique. According to the results of the research, it can be stated that talent development workshops include activities for differentiation and enrichment education. Although the flexibility of the planning process of the workshops is welcomed by the teachers, some of the participants are negative about leaving the process to the initiative of the teacher. Expressions that the workshop implementation process supports the mental and social development of the student came to the fore. In the workshop implementation process, it can be mentioned that the physical facilities and technological infrastructure are insufficient. In the evaluation of workshop activities, it has been determined that teachers generally use ready-made workshop evaluation criteria, and some teachers develop their own criteria. However, some teachers shared the view that the correct evaluation criteria for the workshops could not be established. It can be said that the teachers of the Science and Art Center make an effort to improve themselves.
