An evaluate a visual arts education application prepared in accordance with the approach of project-based learning of arts (painting) at science and arts center(A case from Yasemin Karakaya Bilsem)

The purpose of the study is to evaluate a visual arts education application prepared in accordance with the approach of project-based learning of arts (painting) at science and arts center. In this research, how the application of a painting project prepared with the project-based learning approach was gradually processed, what problems arose, and what learners and teachers thought of the project-based learning approach were studied.In this research, qualitative collection data method was used. Considering the problem of it, its secondary purposes, research group and the fact that the researcher does the research where she works, the model of the research was decided to be action research. Also, in the research, easily accessible situation sampling was used.In view of the research purpose, initially for the painting (arts) project including four different branches, the plan of the project was prepared with some specialists. The study was applied in the Science and Arts Center in Ankara, in 2009 July. The participants were 9 schoolgirls, 3 schoolboys in a project preparation term and 5 teachers except for the researcher. The painting (arts) project planned was carried out in 10 days (80 class hours). The data were gathered through ?Personal Student Information Form?, Student Focus Group Interview Form?, Teacher Interview Form?, ?Video Recording?, ?Student Diaries? and ?Student Portfolios?.Content analysis method was used to analyze the data with the help of NVivo 9.0 program. With respect to the sub-goals of this research, the data, being analyzed by means of content analysis, were identified and interpreted by using themes and codes.The results of the research indicated that the process was productive, although there were problems in the course of the painting project application process prepared in accordance with project-based learning approach at a science and arts center. When the project-based learning approach was studied, it was seen that it was correlated to the goals of science and arts centers. In practice, it was seen that students? self-confidence improved, and their skills of presentation, taking responsibilities, critical thinking, social interaction, as well as those of researching and problem solving developed. In addition, it was understood that learners got a lot of pleasure from the study, that the responsibilities of the participants increased, and that learning environment became more meaningful for both learners end teachers.Key Words: Gifted/Talented Children Art Education, Science and Arts Center,Project-Based Learning, Visual Arts Education, Project, Activity, Action Research
