Evaluation of the music course programme implemented in science and art centres in line with teachers' opinions

The same music education programme is applied in science and arts centres all over Turkey. Students receive training from expert instructors according to their interests and abilities. It is also worth noting that teachers working in these centres are admitted through competitive examinations. In this context, a study will be conducted to reveal the opinions of music educators working in science and arts centres about the music education programme. The study aims to reveal music educators' opinions about the music education programme applied in science and arts centres, and its applicability. This descriptive survey-based research study will explore these views. A 5-point Likert scale will be used to obtain quantitative data. Questionnaires were used as the data collection tool in this study, and the responses were summarised in tables showing frequencies and percentages. The questions in the questionnaire were prepared by the researcher. These were approved by three experts. The study population consists of 282 music teachers working in 242 science and art centres in Turkey. The study sample consists of 103 music teachers. Information about the number of music teachers and the schools in which they work was obtained from the official website of the Ministry of National Education. If some of the requested information was unavailable on the Ministry's website, a phone call was made. This research will be conducted with music teachers working in science and art centres. As there is usually only one BILSEM in provinces other than big cities, the number of provinces to be researched has been kept high to ensure a high number of participants. Tables and graphs will be created using the data collected during the research. These will then be evaluated and presented. The results and recommendations will be compiled and presented in the final part of the study. The study on the adequacy of the music curriculum in Science and Art Centres concluded that most teachers found the curriculum, lessons and achievements adequate and applicable. However, some teachers did not find it adequate. A decisive proportion of teachers found the music curriculum neither descriptive nor functional, resulting in the conclusion that it should be improved to make it more useful for teachers. The proportions of teachers with positive and negative opinions about lesson hours and learning outcomes remained similar. Additionally, it was concluded that the Bilsem music programme requires revision and improvement.
