Abstract (EN)
The aim of this research is to examine the beliefs and views regarding the nature of science among teachers who teach the history of science. The research sample consists of 160 teachers working at the secondary education level in schools located in the central district and districts of Çankırı during the 2021-2022 academic year. Among the teachers, 100 are from the natural sciences (biology, physics, chemistry), and 60 are from the social sciences (history) field. The findings indicate that the teachers' beliefs about the nature of science are generally at a moderate level and that factors such as gender, educational background, taking a history of science course during undergraduate education, or seeking help from other courses do not create a significant difference in their beliefs. However, the beliefs about the nature of science vary depending on the education and teaching domains of the teachers. Furthermore, the study reveals that there are many differences in the views regarding the nature of science between teachers from the natural sciences and those from the social sciences. The first group tends to adopt a more realistic perspective, while the latter group tends to exhibit a more acceptable perspective. Based on the data obtained from the study, various recommendations have been proposed for researchers and practitioners to consider. These recommendations aim to enhance teachers' beliefs about the nature of science and develop strategies for providing more effective education to students.
