The problem of observing context in verses examined in the name of scientific tafsir

The verses of the Qur'an have been discussed and interpreted according to different perspectives throughout history. The aim of scholars who have different perspectives has been to understand the Qur'an in the most accurate way. For this purpose, within the framework of efforts to interpret the Qur'an, many types of tafsir and tafsir schools have emerged that deal with different subjects. One of them is the school of scientific tafsir, in which the verses in the Qur'an are discussed in terms of whether they contain scientific information or not. In this study, we aim to determine whether the verses of the Qur'an refer to the scientific facts revealed in the historical process as claimed, whether the verses have scientific aspects and whether the interpretations of the relevant verses made in the name of scientific tafsir are appropriate to their context. Because the appropriateness of the interpretation made to the context of the text and the meaning it means is of great importance in terms of understanding the text correctly. The study starts with a general introduction to tafsir and its types, examines the historical adventure of scientific tafsir, the importance of complying with the context and consists of four main sections with the discussion of the context problem in the method of scientific tafsir. In the study, the verses used in the scientific interpretation of the Qur'an were identified and the contexts of these verses from classical tafsir books were examined. In addition, in order to reach the real contexts of the verses, the first meanings understood by them from the tafsirs of the companions and the tâbiûn(followers) period were reached and these meanings were compared with the meanings reached by the scientific school of tafsir. In other words, it has been examined and explained how appropriate the interpretations made in the name of scientific tafsir to the context of the verses.
